Washington pitcher John Lannan has been far from dominant, but he has still managed to keep the Colorado Rockies off the scoreboard, a day after the Rocks hammered Washington pitching to the tune of 19 hits and 15 runs. Lannan has allowed five hits and three walks in his five innings of work, striking out two.
Aaron Cook has had a similar performance on the hill for the Rockies, allowing two Washington runs on three hits and three walks, striking out two. The Rockies bats have been eerily silent, with the exception of shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who is two for two on the day.
Jonny Gomes has been the offensive star of the game for the Nationals so far, singling and driving in both runs with his 12th home run of the year (his first as a National). The only other player in the Washington lineup to have a hit is Ryan Zimmerman. Perhaps it is time for a uniform team haircut, oh, say a mohawk?
