Nationals Vs. Rockies Final: Jayson Werth Hits Go Ahead Run In Nationals 3-2 Victory

The Washington Nationals were looking to leave Coors Field and the Colorado Rockies with a four game split and they got what they wished. The Nationals pulled off a 3-2 Sunday victory over the Rockies to take two games of the four game series.

In the top of the eighth right fielder Jayson Werth slapped a single into left field which allowed second baseman Danny Espinosa to come around and score the go ahead run and put the Nationals on top. Reliever Drew Storen came in during the ninth and put the finishing touches on his 29th save of the season. In the second inning outfielder Jonny Gomes welcomed himself to the Nationals by hitting a two-run shot off Aaron Cook. It was Gomes' 12th home run of the season and his first as a National.

Starter John Lannan ended up going six innings giving up one run on six hits. He struck out three, but issued four walks. It certainly wasn't as tight a start as his last one, but it was serviceable enough to win the game.

The Nationals move to 55-59 on the season.
