The Washington Capitals almost grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat in their second preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets Wednesday. The Caps came up short, but will look to even up their preseason record at 1-1-1 Friday against the Chicago Blackhawks at Verizon Center.
Wednesday, Andrew Carroll and Roman Hamrlik scored within the last three minutes of the third period to bring Washington back from a 3-1 deficit and send the game to overtime. Yet, former Caps prospect Alexandre Giroux scored the game-winning power play goal midway through the overtime period to send the Caps to 0-1-1. After losing just two games over the last two preseasons, the Caps have already lost two games in September.
The lineup headed to Chicago features several of the Caps' biggest names. Friday's morning skate at Kettler Capitals Iceplex looked like this:
Alex Ovechkin - Marcus Johansson - Joel Ward
Ryan Potulny - Keith Aucoin - Matthew Ford
Cody Eakin - Brooks Laich - Matt Hendricks
D.J. King - Mattias Sjogren - Christian Hanson
Karl Alzner - John Carlson
Jeff Schultz - MIke Green
Danny Richmond - Sean Collins
Tomas Vokoun will get his first start in net with Dany Sabourin backing him up. Head coach Bruce Boudreau said Friday that he is not sure if Vokoun will play the entire game, but should see at least two periods of action.
