Blue Jackets Vs. Capitals: Caps Seek First Preseason Win, Revenge Against Blue Jackets

The Capitals return to Verizon Center for the first time since early May and will look to please the hometown crowd and themselves by winning their first preseason game against the Blue Jackets.

Last Wednesday, the Washington Capitals' late-game comeback fell short in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. It is only the preseason, but the winless Caps will look to exact revenge and win their first preseason game in the process Monday night against the Blue Jackets at Verizon Center.

The Caps made yet another round of cuts Sunday, sending six players to Hershey, including goaltender Braden Holtby. Twenty-nine players remain on Washington's training camp roster with three forward spots open for six possible players: Jay Beagle, D.J. King, Mathieu Perreault, Cody Eakin, Mattias Sjogren and Chris Bourque. All six should see action in most, if not all, remaining preseason games.

One player, however, who will be making his preseason Caps debut is Troy Brouwer, who has yet to play as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery. Brouwer practiced with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom Sunday and will be on the top line Monday, according to head coach Bruce Boudreau.
