With three games remaining in the preseason entering Wednesday's game against the Nashville Predators, the Washington Capitals have several players fighting for one of the team's final roster spots. One of those on the "bubble" scored Wednesday against the Predators, but the Caps' collective bubble burst again.
Mathieu Perreault gave the Caps an early 1-0 lead, but the Predators scored four unanswered goals that stood up in a 4-1 victory that left the Caps 1-3-1 in the preseason.
Perreault, fighting for a chance to start the season in Washington, scored the opening goal when he finished a 2-on-1 with Brooks Laich and beat Pekka Rinne for his second goal of the preseason. After that, it was all Nashville as Colin Wilson, Matt Halischuk, Cal O'Reilly and Shea Weber scored for the Predators.
The Caps lost to the Predators for the second time in eight days, having lost to them last Tuesday at the Baltimore Hockey Classic. Washington has two preseason games left: Friday against the Buffalo Sabres and Sunday against the Chicago Blackhawks. Both games are at Verizon Center.
