Capitals Vs. Canadiens: Alex Ovechkin Extends Caps' Lead To 3-0

Someone must have forgotten to tell the Washington Capitals that they were playing on the road.

For the first time since mid-November, the Caps have a three-goal lead on the road as they hold a 3-0 advantage over the Montreal Canadiens after 40 minutes.

With four minutes to work with on their lone power play of the period, the Caps made it count with Alex Ovechkin's 19th goal of the season. Mathieu Darche drew blood on Marcus Johansson with a high stick, sending him to the penalty box with a double minor.

It took Washington almost three minutes, but it beat Carey Price when Dennis Wideman passed from the goal line to Alexander Semin at the point. Semin then sent a cross-ice pass to Ovechkin at the other point. Ovechkin set himself and fired a slap shot that Price had no chance to stop as Johansson and Troy Brouwer.

For the second straight period, the Caps only mustered five shots on goal. Michal Neuvirth made seven more saves for 14 total.
