The George Mason Patriots improved to 9-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association on Wednesday night, beating an inferior Hofstra team 55-50 on Long Island. It was Mason's second win in three days, as the Patriots maintained their grip on first place in the conference. It was an ugly night for GMU on the offensive end with Ryan Pearson scoring only seven points and Mike Morrison adding just three.
But Sherrod Wright and Jonathan Arledge came off the bench to boost Paul Hewitt's squad. They were the only Patriots in double figures, with Wright scoring 15 and Arledge 10. Mason, which had a brutal offensive first half against UNC-Wilmington on Monday, shot just 32 percent from the floor but managed to hit 20 of 23 free-throws to hold off the upset-minded Pride (or Flying Dutchmen, as they're still known in some quarters).
Mason will now play its third conference game of the week on Saturday afternoon, hosting James Madison at the Patriot Center.
