The Washington Capitals announced Monday that they signed forward Joel Rechlicz to an entry-level contract and recalled him along with Cody Eakin from AHL Hershey.
Rechlicz has one goal, one assist and an AHL-leading 184 penalty minutes in 27 games with the Bears this season. In fact, his 184 PIM are 30 more than the NHL's leader in that same category (the Ottawa Senators' Zenon Konopka has 154). The 6'4", 220-pound Rechlicz has 23 games of NHL experience with the New York Islanders during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
Rechlicz will wear No. 54 for Washington.
Meanwhile, Eakin returns after being assigned to Hershey during the All-Star Break. In 27 games with the Caps this season, Eakin has four goals and eight points.
Both players will participate in Monday's practice at Kettler Capitals Iceplex, which begins at 2 p.m.
