Capitals broadcaster John Walton to fill in on Wizards radio broadcast

Capitals radio voice John Walton will fill in for Dave Johnson on the Wizards/Bucks radio broadcast Saturday.

With the NHL lockout still going as we move into mid-October, the media who typically cover the Capitals have had to find other ways to earn their corn. Katie Carerra of the Post was drafted into help the paper cover the Nats playoff run (Brian McNally of the Examiner splits Caps and Nats beat duties), while Stephen Whyno of the Times and Sky Kerstein of 106.7 The Fan have been thick as thieves at Redskins Park.

Now, you can add Capitals radio broadcaster John Walton to that list. In a post on his Capitals Voice blog, the gregarious Walton revealed that he would call the Wizards preseason game on radio in Milwaukee Saturday night while regular announcer Dave Johnson handled D.C. United's game against Columbus at RFK.

Walton:

I'm pinch-hitting for Dave Saturday since science hasn't figured out a way to have him in two places at once. I'll be doing play-by-play for the Wizards Saturday night in his place. It will be the first NBA game I've ever done, and I'm very much looking forward to working with Glenn Consor for the night. It's been a while, but I did a little basketball a long time ago. My first radio job had me doing high school hoops in Indiana sometime during the Paleozoic era. Little bit different this time around. But I'm happy to help out for a night.

In our limited broadcasting experience, we always found basketball to be easier than hockey, so we're sure Walton will do just fine. Saturday's game can be heard on WFED-AM 1500.
