In the wake of Jason La Canfora's initial report that the Redskins were close to re-signing fan favorite tight end Chris Cooley, more information has emerged that has all but confirmed Cooley's return to the Burgundy-and-Gold.
Soon after Cooley was released late in training camp, he was snapped up by WRC-TV (the NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C.) to appear alongside sportscaster Dan Hellie on a segment (normally broadcast from Redskins Park in Ashburn, Va.) called "The Cooley Report" during the station's 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts.
Late Sunday night, after La Canfora's report broke, Hellie confirmed that Cooley would sign with the Redskins Monday, while adding that "The Cooley Report" segment would continue to air on Mondays.
Currently, the Redskins media schedule for Monday calls for "a player TBD" to address the media via speakerphone in the Redskins media room at 2:30 p.m. prior to head coach Mike Shanahan's 3 p.m. press conference. In light of tonight's news, it's hard to imagine that player being anyone else.
