Navy vs. East Carolina 2012: Navy's ground game pounds out a 21-14 halftime lead

In typical fashion, Navy's ground game dominated the first quarter against East Carolina. The Midshipmen used nine different ball carriers to amass 246 yards, and three of those ball carriers have reached the end zone.

Navy jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on touchdown runs by Marcus Thomas and Noah Copeland. However, to start the second quarter, the East Carolina Pirates scored twice on sustained drives. Reggie Bullock capped a 96-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown to tie the game 14-14.

With 2:04 left in the second quarter, Navy quarterback Kennan Reynolds hit pay dirt from 1 yard out to secure the halftime lead.

In a run-first offense, Reynolds has 52 yards on the ground and just 16 in the air. The freshman is just 1-of-3 through the air, throwing the game's lone interception.

East Carolina quarterback Shane Carden is 14 of 17 with 146 yards and a score for the Pirates.
