Virginia head coach Mike London announced Tuesday that three Cavalier football players are suspended for the team's upcoming game against North Carolina State. London suspended linebacker Henry Coley, tight end Jeremiah Mathis and fullback LoVonte Battle.
Coley is Virginia's starting weakside linebacker, and he ranks fourth on the team with 40 tackles and fifth with 4½ tackles for loss this season. Mathis has five catches for 42 yards and one touchdown, and Battle has one carry for 22 yards.
London did not give a reason for the suspensions, but he did say that Coley could lose his starting job. Daquan Romero will start in his place against the Wolfpack. The players' statuses will be revisited next week.
The Cavaliers (2-6, 0-4 ACC) have lost six consecutive games since opening the season with wins against Richmond and Penn State. Virginia is coming off its bye week and lost to Wake Forest, 16-10, on Oct. 20.
Kickoff between the Cavaliers and Wolfpack is set for Saturday, Nov. 3 at 12:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on the ACC Network and ESPN3.
