Virginia vs. Duke halftime update: Cavaliers lead 17-14 against the Blue Devils

The Virginia Cavaliers lead the Duke Blue Devils 17-14 at halftime in Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Almost of the scoring took place in an explosive first quarter that saw Virginia take a 7-0 lead before giving up 14 points and then tying the affair on a Perry Jones 1-yard touchdown scamper. On the final play of the half, Drew Jarrett connected on a 39-yard field goal to give the Cavaliers a 17-14 lead at the break.

Virginia (2-3, 0-1) has looked superior in terms of yards with a 317-190 advantage in that category. However, the Cavaliers have stalled out twice jut past midfield, putting an end to promising drives.

Quarterback Phillip Sims is having an average game to this point, completing 11-of-20 for 137 yards and an interception. Sims is starting for the first time this season in place of Michael Rocco, who was ineffective last weekend against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.

Jones has been the main source of offense for the Cavaliers, rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown on just 16 attempts.

It's been a day of big gains for Duke (4-1, 1-0), which has scored on two touchdown passes from Anthony Boone. The first scoring toss was 54 yards to Jamison Crowder while the second went for 37 yards to Conner Vernon.
