Virginia vs. Duke recap: Blue Devils rout Cavaliers, 42-17

The Duke Blue Devils took care of business against the Virginia Cavaliers, winning 42-17 in Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Despite trailing 17-14 at halftime, Duke scored 28 unanswered points to run their record to 5-1 (2-0 in ACC play). The Blue Devils were out-gained 461-395 in total yardage but forced two Virginia turnovers en route to the victory.

Quarterback Anthony Boone had a huge game, completing 18-of-31 passes for 212 yards and four touchdowns. Boone and the Blue Devils hit on some big plays, including touchdown throws of 54 yards to Jamison Crowder along with 37 and 45 yards to Conner Vernon.

Virginia struggled with Phillip Sims at the helm. In his first game replacing the benched Michael Rocco, Sims only hit on 21-of-42 for 267 yards with two interceptions. Rocco came in to relieve Sims but only threw four passes.

Perry Jones was the star offensively for the Cavaliers, gaining 101 yards on the ground with a touchdown.

Box score hero: Anthony Boone. The Duke field general was terrific in the win, throwing for 212 yards and four touchdowns without tossing a pick on 18-of-31 passing.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team was ranked going into this weekend, and while Duke will start getting some consideration it's unlikely it'll jump into the top 25.

Did they cover?: The Blue Devils were favored by a point and easily covered.

Next week's schedule: Virginia hosts the Maryland Terrapins next Saturday while Duke visits the Virginia Tech Hokies.
