The George Washington Colonials are on the board in 2012, picking up their first win of the season with a 72-59 defeat of Boston University on Saturday afternoon. The Colonials clamped down on the defensive end and overwhelmed the America East opponent on the road.

Freshman guard Joe McDonald led the way for Mike Lonergan's club, scoring 21 points. The Lorton native was extremely efficient from the field, hitting 6-of-9 shots and draining his one attempt from behind the arc. McDonald also pulled down seven boards and is certainly making a name for himself early in his first season at GW.

While McDonald was the only player in double figures, GW spread it around on the offensive end of the floor and shot 52 percent from the field. A lot of the damage was done at the free-throw line, where GW simply could not miss. McDonald was a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe, and the team shot better than 90 percent from the line. On the other end, BU could find no room to operate as the on-ball defense of the Colonials was suffocating. The Terriers shot just 33 percent from the floor

At 1-1, the Colonials now head out on the road to face a ranked Notre Dame team on Wednesday night in South Bend.
