The Virginia Tech Hokies hope to somewhat salvage a disappointing season by claiming bowl eligibility with a win against the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday.
Virginia Tech began the 2012 season ranked No. 16 in the country, then promptly lost three of its first six games. The Hokies followed that skid with another, losing three of their next five games. Heading into the final game of the season, the Hokies' record stands at 5-6, 3-4 in conference play.
Quarterback Logan Thomas has thrown for 2,654 yards and 16 touchdowns, adding another 442 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
Virginia, at 4-7 overall, has nothing to play for besides inner-state pride as they travel to Blacksburg, Va., on Saturday. The Cavaliers' chance at bowl eligibility died last Saturday with a 37-13 loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels. Running back Kevin Parks has led the Cavaliers offense this season with 713 yards and five touchdowns.
