The Maryland Terrapins are fighting for their bowl lives as host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in a Saturday afternoon kickoff.
At 4-4, Maryland needs two wins in their last four games to become bowl eligible. With games against #13 Clemson and #9 Florida State still on the schedule, the match-up with 3-5 Georgia Tech takes on critical importance in that quest. A loss to the Yellow Jackets would make a major upset a requirement to go to a bowl game.
Both teams face quarterback issues, as injuries are forcing Maryland to start a linebacker-turned-QB, Shawn Petty, they should be helped by the fact that offensive linemen Bennett Fulper and Sal Conaboy are likely to return from injury. Maryland ranks 119th in the nation in rushing yards, but Georgia Tech's rushing defense has been fairly mediocre this season. Meanwhile, Tevin Washington is slated to start for Georgia Tech, but coach Paul Johnson has indicated that he's likely to placate fans by giving more snaps to Vlad Lee. With the Yellow Jackets losing four of five, the pressure is mounting on Washington and Johnson.
