The Colonial Athletic Association announced on Wednesday afternoon that the league has come to terms on a three-year agreement with the city of Baltimore to host the CAA men's basketball championship at 1st Mariner Arena beginning in 2014, according to a press release on the CAA's website.
The CAA championship has been held at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia since 1990. The arena will host the event in 2013 prior to moving to the 1st Mariner Arena in 2014.
The first CAA championship in Baltimore is tentatively scheduled to take place on March 7, 2014, and will run until March 10. In 2015, the championship will take place from March 6 through March 9; in 2016 it will span from March 4 through March 7.
1st Mariner Arena has a capacity of 11,800 for basketball events and was named the No. 1 arena in the United States by Billboard Magazine and Venues Today in 2009.
