After beginning the season with seven straight wins, the Virginia Tech Hokies have now lost two of their past three contests, falling Saturday 78-73 to the Georgia Southern Eagles in Blacksburg. It was Virginia Tech's first home loss of the season, and just the second win in six road tries for Georgia Southern.
Erick Green led the way for the Hokies, scoring 28 points (on 12-of-24 shooting), grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists in a losing effort. Jarell Eddie chipped in 21 points and eight rebounds for Virginia Tech
Georgia Southern received 22 points and four assists from C.J. Reed and 20 points and four rebounds from Cleon Roberts in the victory. Forward Eric Ferguson added a double-double for the Eagles, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Virginia Tech (8-2 on the season) had beaten Georgia Southern (4-5) in all five prior meetings in the series, with the last occurring during the 1996-97 season. This was the Eagles' first game in the commonwealth of Virginia since 2003.
