Howard forward Mike Phillips scored 19, including two key free throws to ice the game as the Bison edged the Flames on Saturday. Liberty led by seven at the half, but Howard's ball-control offense saw the Bison turn the ball over only seven times, with the Flames giving it up 15. The Bison outscored their opponents by 14 in the second half behind the efforts of Phillips.
Liberty's Casey Roberts and Davon Marshall both scored in double-digits, each hitting three three-pointers and half of their shots from the field. J.R. Coronado pulled down 11 boards to lead all rebounders.
Calvin Thompson and Simuel Frazier scored 13 and 12 respectively for the Bison, with Alphonso Leary chipping in 10 rebounds from the bench. Frazier led all players in assists with six.
For the 3-8 Bison, this is their second win in three games. They play the Pac-12's Oregon State Beavers Dec. 19.
