The Virginia Tech Hokies return to action on Saturday when they visit the Brigham Young Cougars. Virginia Tech (9-3) started the season with seven consecutive victories, but has since dropped three of its last five games. BYU (9-4) has won four of five, including a convincing 84-54 win over Northern Arizona on Thursday.
Virginia Tech has struggled outside of Blacksburg this year. The Hokies are just 2-2 in road games. BYU, meanwhile, is a perfect 7-0 at home so far. Still, Saturday's game is not a "true" home game, as the Cougars will compete at the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City for the second time this season.
These teams met last season in Virginia for the first time since 1967. After a back-and-forth second half, BYU pulled out a 70-68 win.
Virginia Tech's squad has not changed much from last season. The Hokies continue to rely on strong guards for most of their scoring. Erick Green (25.4 PPG), Jarell Eddie (14.7 PPG) and Robert Brown (10.4 PPG) lead the team this season.
Brigham Young does not have forward Noah Hartsock, who averaged 16.8 points as a senior last season. The Cougars are led by Brandon Davies (20.3 PPG) and Tyler Haws (19.3 PPG).
