Part of our job description is to monitor Twitter, and we were genuinely stunned Sunday to see how many people were tweeting about that night's Redskins/Cowboys game. Even those poor schmucks covering the ongoing Congressional fiscal cliff negotiations were wondering if they would be able to go home in time to catch the game.

You can see where we're going here.

NBC Sports' PR arm has the staggering numbers, and released them via Twitter Monday morning.

Last night's @Redskins @DallasCowboys gm on @SNFonNBC drew 18.3 overnight rating, 30 share, best ever for a primetime reg-season gm on NBC.

Washington D.C. drew 44.6 overnight and 68 share, best primetime reg-season rating for DC market in Nielsen People Meter history (1987)

Top Mkts: D.C. 44.6/68, Richmond 42.8/60, Norfolk 37.1/53, Dallas 36.9/55, San Antonio 28.4/44, Austin 28.4/48, Albuquerque 27.6/41

True story: we ordered a pizza at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night. (Big sucker, too.) The delivery man showed up at our door and asked "getting ready for the game?"

Indeed, we were, sir, and so were a lot of other people.
