Thursday Gold Stars: American Women's Basketball Wins Third Straight Patriot League Regular Season Title

In our first edition of Thursday Gold Stars, we focused on near-achievement, so it's only right that we focus on actual achievement in our second edition.

Wednesday night, while their male compatriots were extending Navy's losing streak to 18 games in Northwest D.C., the American University women's basketball team made the trip out to Annapolis. They returned home with a 55-52 win and a third straight Patriot League regular season title.

From AU's official site:

American (19-8, 11-0 PL) is the first Patriot League team since Holy Cross in 2000-01 to begin conference play with 11 consecutive wins. The Crusaders are the only league program to finish undefeated when they went 12-0 in both 1990-91 and 1996-97 in a seven-team Patriot League.

The women close their home schedule Saturday against Army before hitting the road to play Bucknell and Lafayette to close the season next week. Congratulations to head coach Matt Corkery and his team.
