Washington Nationals Confirm That Pitching Prospect Sammy Solis Will Undergo Tommy John Surgery

The Washington Nationals confirmed on Twitter earlier reports that left-handed pitching prospect Sammy Solis will undergo Tommy John Surgery next Tuesday in Los Angeles.

The tweet also confirmed that Dr. Lewis Youcum will be performing the operation. If the name sounds familiar to Nationals fans, he is the doctor that performed Stephen Strasburg's Tommy John operation and Ryan Zimmerman's abdominal surgery last season.

The 23-year-old is expected to miss all of the 2012 season and possibly the beginning of the 2013 campaign as well.

Solis was drafted in the second round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Nationals, and has played in just 19 minor league games in his career so far between the Hagerstown Suns and the Potomac Nationals.

Solis currently ranks as the eighth best prospect in the Nationals farm system according to Baseball America.
