Women's NCAA Tournament: ACC Champion Maryland No. 2 Seed In Raleigh Region, Opens Against Navy

The seedings and pairings for the 2012 Women's NCAA Tournament have been revealed and the ACC Tournament Champion Maryland Terrapins have been handed a No. 2 seed in the Raleigh Regional. Brenda Frese's Lady Terps will play their first game on Saturday, March 17 at the Comcast Center in College Park against No. 15 seed Navy. That game tips off at 11:15 a.m. and can be seen on ESPN2.

If Maryland gets past Navy, they will meet the winner of the match-up between No. 7 seed Louisville and No. 10 seed Michigan State.

The Georgetown Hoyas earned a No. 5 seed in the Des Moines Region and will face No. 12 seed Fresno State in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Sunday, March 18. That game tips off at 12:20 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN2. The winner of that game will meet either No. 4 seed Georgia Tech or No. 13 seed Sacred Heart.

Among the notable omissions were the Virginia Cavaliers, who finished 22-10 overall, 9-7 in ACC play and lost to Maryland in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

Two other local teams earned No. 16 seeds. Hampton will face No. 1 seed Stanford in the Fresno Region. That game is scheduled for Saturday, March 17 with tip-off at 1:30 in Norfolk, Va. Liberty also earned a No. 16 seed and will play No. 1 seed Notre Dame in the Fresno Region. That game will take place Sunday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m. in Notre Dame, Ind.
