D.C. United lost their second straight game to start the 2012 MLS season, falling 3-1 to the defending MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy.
Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane was the main man for Los Angeles, and he put the Galaxy ahead 1-0 in first half stoppage time by turning a centering header from Todd Dunivant into Joe Willis' net.
Keane doubled Los Angeles' lead in the 69th minute after Landon Donovan went on a swashbuckling run to the edge of United's defensive zone and laid the ball off to Keane. The Irishman took a touch and unleashed a left-footed shot that left Willis with no chance.
Marcelo Sarvas made the score 3-0 in the 86th minute when he headed home a David Beckham cross. United made the score slightly more respectable a minute later when Nick DeLeon scored his first goal in MLS, running onto a Marcelo Saragosa through ball and finishing off the post.
United return to action Saturday night at 10:00 p.m. against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
