2012 NCAA Women's Tournament: Maryland Meets Notre Dame With Final Four Spot At Stake

The Terrapins are on the brink of a return trip to the Final Four. Can they defeat a hungry Notre Dame team?

Presswire

The Maryland Terrapins are looking for their first trip to the Women's Basketball Final Four since 2006 but they will have to get past the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, last year's national runner-up. The Irish are hungry to get another crack at a national championship, but the Terrapins look to play a physical game and deny the Irish their return trip to the Final Four.

Maryland's Tianna Hawkins is the most efficient shooter in the nation, shooting a terrific 63 percent from the field and Alyssa Thomas, the ACC player of the year, hopes that they can play the physical game that can be needed to knock off an Irish team fresh off a 44-point victory in the Sweet 16 over St. Bonaventure.

The Terps have a plus-14 rebounding margin and four starters that measure in at six feet or taller so the Terps will need their size to help them going into this crucial game.

This game is scheduled for a 9 p.m. tip off from PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC. Television coverage will be provided by ESPN and the game will be streamed world wide on ESPN3.com.
