The Maryland women's basketball team trails No. 1 seed Notre Dame 40-21 after one half of their regional final in Raleigh. The Irish were led by All-American Sylar Diggins, who scored a game-high 13 points. The Terps' have not been able to get any stops on the defensive end, with the Irish crashing the boards and getting easy buckets in the paint.
Notre Dame is seeking their second straight trip to the Final Four, and it will take a heroic comeback by Brenda Freese's club to stop them at this point. Maryland shot just 39 percent from the floor and committed 12 turnovers against ND's stifling defense. Alyssa Thomas leads the Terps with seven points but both Laurin Mincy and Tianna Hawkins have been very quiet so far, unable to get any offensive rhythm.
The Terps are certainly capable of making things interesting, coming off a win over defending national champion Texas A&M in the Sweet 16 where they trailed by as many as 18 points. The No. 1 seed Irish will present a much tougher test but if the Terps can get hot, they may be able to crash the No. 1 seed Final Four party.
