Women's NCAA Tournament 2012, Notre Dame Vs. Maryland Recap: Terps Blown Out By Irish

The Maryland women's basketball season came to an end on Tuesday night with an 80-49 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Raleigh Regional final. No. 1 seed Notre Dame has been dominant all season and they jumped all over the Terps early, racing out to a 40 first-half points and a 19-point lead heading into the locker room. Behind the eight-ball to start the second half, UMD could simply not get the stops at the defensive end to even threaten the Irish, who extended their lead to 30-plus points.

Alyssa Thomas led the Terps with 17 points, hitting seven of 12 attempts from the floor and grabbing six rebounds. Alicia DeVaughn and Tianna Hawkins added tens each but Laurin Mincy was a quiet one for six from the floor and finished with only two points. On the other side, All-American Skylar Diggins was simply dominant, finishing with a triple-double. The Terps had no answers for Diggins, who had 22 points, 10 assists, and 10 boards.

Brenda Frese and the Terps finish a very successful season at 31-5. The women's Final Four, meanwhile, will feature all four No. 1 seeds next week in Denver.
