After Georgetown finished the regular season 22-7 with a 12-6 conference record, the Big East named senior guard Jason Clark first team all conference. Fellow senior Henry Sims made third team All-Big East and junior forward Hollis Thompson made honorable mention.
The honors for the Hoya players were well deserved, though the surprise exclusion of freshmen forward Otto Porter from the conference's All-Rookie team made some Georgetown fans upset. Porter played big minutes for the No. 12 ranked Hoyas. More after the jump.
Somehow Big East coaches voted for the conference's All-Rookie team and forgot about Porter, Georgetown's best rebounder. Little was expected of the 2011-2012 Hoya team, but with help from the grit and presence of Porter, Georgetown has serious claims towards a Final Four run.
Porter's numbers don't jump out, he averages nine points and almost seven rebounds a game, but in big games the freshman comes to play. In an overtime loss to No. 2 ranked Syracuse Porter scored 14 points and hauled in 13 rebounds.
Casual Hoya goes more in-depth, but the players selected over Porter for the rookie honors are surprising. Porter deserved to be included.
