Flyers Vs. Capitals: Alex Ovechkin Benched As Flyers Take 1-0 Lead

The Washington Capitals' struggles are starting to play like a broken record.

After dominating puck possession throughout the game, the Philadelphia Flyers struck first and have a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Washington had the puck in the offensive zone throughout the first half of the period, but it was Eric Wellwood who put Philadelphia up 1-0 at 7:51. Alex Ovechkin was not playing sound defense on Pavel Kubina, who took advantage of such and passed to Wellwood, who tipped the puck past Michal Neuvirth for his second goal of the season.

Ovechkin was benched for all but 1:01 for the rest of the period after his porous defense, sitting on the end of the bench.

Washington holds a 22-14 shot advantage.
