MEAC Tournament 2012: Hampton Pirates Win First Tournament Game, 69-65 Over The Morgan State Bears

In the first game of the MEAC Tournament the Hampton Pirates defeated the Morgan State Bears in Winston Salem, N.C. 69-65. The Pirates were led in scoring by guard Darrion Pellum with 23 points, 16 of them from the foul line. Guard Jasper Williams added 20 points, with five three pointers. Guard Christopher Tolson added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Pirates.

The Bears on the other hand were led in scoring by guard Aric Brooks with 18 points with three three-pointers. Forward Kevin Thompson added 12 points and pulled down 17 rebounds, 7 on the offensive side. Guard Justin Black came off the bench and scored 12 points as well. However the Bears were undone by sloppy shooting, only hitting 28.6 percent of their shots while the Pirates shot 41.3%.
