The Howard Bison had to sweat it out a little bit, but they held on to defeat the North Carolina A&T Aggies in the MEAC tournament 51-50. The Bison were led in their game by guard Calvin Thompson with 15 points with three three-pointers and 4 assists. Also scoring in double figures was forward Prince Okoroh with 10 points and 6 rebounds.
For the Aggies, Forward DeMetrius Upchurch scored 13 points with 6 rebounds, but made a crucial mistake near the end of the game. With the Aggies trailing 51-48, Upchurch made a layup with four seconds remaining in the game, rather than attempting a potential game-tying three pointer. North Carolina A&T managed to deflect the ensuing inbound pass, but couldn't get a shot off before the final buzzer. Forward Adrian Powell led the way for the Aggies with 16 points and 7 rebounds.
The Bison move on to play Norfolk State Wednesday.
