Hurricanes Vs. Capitals Score Update: Capitals Hold 1-0 Lead After One Period

After one period, the Washington Capitals have broke the scoring open, and take a 1-0 lead over the Carolina Hurricanes into the dressing rooms.

Troy Brouwer scored his 18th goal of the season for the Caps at the 13:59 mark of the first period. Keith Aucoin got the assist. Washington was able to get a slim majority of the chances in the opening period, outshooting the 'Canes 13-10.

Each team received a chance on the power play in the first period, although neither resulted in goals. The Capitals have come out as the agressor in the hit department, holding a 10-6 advantage over the Hurricanes in the first 20 minutes.

Goalie Michael Neuvirth has been solid in the first for the Capitals, stopping all 10 shots he faced.
