The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats advanced to the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday night with a 62-53 win over South Carolina State. The Wildcats were expected to cruise into the second round against the last place Bulldogs, who were winless in the MEAC this season.
Bethune-Cookman was surprisingly led by senior Stanley Elliott, who had an incredibly efficient game hitting eight of nine attempts from the floor for a game-high 16 points. But the Wildcats shot just 20 percent from three-point range and 61 percent from the free-throw line to keep this one closer than it should have been.
The no. 5 seeded Wildcats move on to face the No. 4 seed North Carolina Central, who cruised past Maryland-Eastern Shore earlier in the day in Winston-Salem.
