NCAA Lacrosse Rankings 2012: Loyola (Md.) New No. 1, Virginia Falls To No. 6, Maryland Rises To No. 8

There was a lot of movement in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Top 20 poll after previously topped ranked Virginia lost to No. 5 Duke 13-5 on Friday. The new team at the top of the poll is the Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds. Loyola's big victory of the week was a 12-9 win over No. 12 ranked Denver on Saturday. The Greyhounds will have their first key game as the top ranked team against the Hobart Statesmen of New York on Saturday.

Virginia dropped in their rankings to No. 6, their lowest ranking of the season. The Maryland Terrapins rose to No. 8 thanks to a 9-6 victory over No. 7 Johns Hopkins on Saturday.

Both Virginia and Maryland play on Friday. The Terrapins will play Duke and the Cavaliers will play the No. 9 North Carolina Tar Heels.

The only other local team that is earning votes in the lacrosse poll is Towson University.
