The red-hot Washington Nationals (12-4) send Gio Gonzalez to the mound Sunday against the Miami Marlins (7-8), as Washington looks to match its best 17-game start in 31 years.
Gonzalez, acquired in the offseason from the Oakland Athletics, has allowed just two hits in seven shutout innings in his last two starts, and is 1-0 on the year with a 2.04 ERA. He currently has a 14-inning scoreless streak at Nationals Park.
The Marlins will counter with staff ace Josh Johnson, just 0-2 this season with a 5.94 ERA. However, the right-hander is 7-0 with a 3.22 ERA in 14 career starts against the Nationals.
