New York Red Bulls vs. D.C. United: Chris Pontius Leads United To 3-0 Halftime Lead

Both New York Red Bulls and D.C. United have to deal with the elements, but it looks like only one team showed up to RFK Stadium tonight. Yes, the Red Bulls are without superstar Rafa Marquez, but it looks like the rest of the team decided not to care today.

United got off to a great start controlling possession early and got on the board first with a strike from outside the box from Chris Pontius in the eighth minute.

The Red Bulls only opportunity of the half came in the 25th minute. Thierry Henry tested United keeper Joe Willis with a shot from 30 yards away, which Willis handled.

Pontius added his second in the 32nd minute, but that goal was set up by Maicon Santos. Santos beat three Red Bull defenders to the end line and put in a cross Goalkeeper Ryan Meara could not control. Pontius was on the doorstep and put the sitter in to give United a 2-0 lead.

United added their third goal of the half after a questionable no-call against Dwayne De Rosario as he pushed a Red Bull defender down in the box to get to the ball, he sent a cross to Nick DeLeon and after a deflection, United took the 3-0 lead in the 36th minute.
