The famous Masters Par 3 Contest jinx will not come into play in 2012. Severe weather forced the cancellation of the traditional Wednesday event shortly before 4 p.m. Play had been suspended at around 3:30 p.m. after menacing clouds were seen around the course. The current forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms Thursday and Friday, which could wreak havoc on the tournament's opening rounds.
Padraig Harrington and Jonathan Byrd were leading the nine-hole event when play was called. Each man was at 5 under par. No player has ever won The Masters and the Par 3 Contest in the same year. The Par 3 Contest was first contested in 1960 and is famous for its relatively informal atmosphere.
