Howard University Suspends Unknown Number Of Athletes; Has Not Suspended Athletic Program

Early on Wednesday a report surfaced that Howard University was suspending all athletics effective immediately, but no real details were given. The report has now been updated to say that Howard has not, in fact, suspended all competitive athletics, but has instead suspended some student-athletes from competitive sports while potential NCAA violations are investigated.

The university sent the following statement to NBC Washington's Shomari Stone:

Howard University is conducting an internal investigation of possible NCAA rules-violations. As a result of this process, the University temporarily withheld a number of student-athletes from competition as a self-imposed action. Most teams will compete as scheduled. We are working diligently to fully resolve this matter as quickly as a possible. In order to protect the integrity of this review, we are unable to share additional details at this time.

Some of the investigation reportedly included looking into misuse of textbook vouchers.

We will have more details on the Howard University situation and investigation as more news is reported. Stay tuned to SB Nation DC and this StoryStream for the latest information.
