A surprising day at Augusta saw some unlikely names rise to the top of the leaderboard. Entering the day at even-par, Fred Couples caught fire to shoot a minus-5 that puts him in a tie for the lead heading into the weekend with Jason Dufner.
Despite a host of players reaching scores of minus-4, none were able to catch the two at the top, as Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson and Lee Westwood will all begin Saturday a stroke off of the lead.
Tiger Woods struggled mightily, posting a plus-3 for the day that leaves him eight strokes behind. Phil Mickelson overcame a slow start to shoot a minus-4 on the day that leaves him in striking distance three strokes off of the lead.
Virginia Tech graduate Johnson Wagner was not able to make the plus-5 cut, as he was only able to post a score of plus-9 for his two rounds.
