Nationals Vs. Cubs Update: Washington Takes Lead, Only To Surrender It Back

The Washington Nationals trailed the Chicago Cubs early, as the Cubs took a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch by Gio Gonzalez letting Joe Mather score. It was a short held lead by the Cubs however, as the Nationals took a 2-1 lead on one swing by Adam LaRoche, who homered to right field in the top of the fourth inning.

The Nationals lead was shorter lived than the Cubs lead, as the Cubs took the lead right back in the bottom of the fourth inning. Giovanni Soto singled to get on base and then Marlon Byrd walked. Two batters later, Reed Johnson tripled to right field plating two runs to give the Cubs the 3-2 lead. Joe Mather then singled to left, scoring Reed Johnson to give the Cubs the 4-2 lead heading into the fifth inning.
