After engaging in a tight battle for most of the match, the Maryland Terrapins scored with just six seconds remaining in regulation to outlast the Lehigh Mountain Hawks and advance to the second round of the tournament by a final score of 10-9
For Maryland, Joe Cummings was the hero as he scored the game winning goal, his second on the day. Also registering goals for the Terrapins were Drew Snider with three, and Mike Chanenchuk, Owen Blye, Billy Gribbin, Michael Shakespeare and Jay Carlson each contributed a goal in the victory.
For Lehigh, the loss was surely a disappointment as they came into the match as the number seven seed in the tournament and were just seconds away from advancing. Kyle Stiefel led the way with three goals, David Dimaria contributed two and Roman Lao-Gosney, Dante Fantoni, Adam Johnston and Ryan Snyder all chipped in with a goal.
Maryland will now face off against Johns Hopkins next weekend in Annaoplis, MD which gives area lacrosse fans something to be excited about.
