The number one ranked Loyola Greyhounds defeated the fourth ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA to advance to the 2012 Men's Lacrosse National Championship game on Sunday. The Greyhounds will face the winner of the second semi-final matchup between the Maryland Terrapins and Duke Blue Devils.
For Loyola, Erick Lusby scored five goals on the day Josh Hoawkins and Davis Butts contributed for the Greyhounds as well. While on the Notre Dame side, Westy Hopkiins scored two goals and Jim Marlatt, Sean Rogers and Nicholas Beattie each scored a goal apiece.
Loyola led Notre Dame 2-1 at the end of the first quarter. The Greyhounds would score three more goals in the second quarter and by halftime they held a 5-3 lead. Loyola tacked on another two goals in the third quarter, shutting the Irish out to take a 7-3 lead in the game.
Notre Dame would score two goals in the fourth quarter and hold Loyola scoreless as well, but they were not able to muster anymore offense than that.
