U.S. Open Golf 2012: Tiger Woods, Casey Martin Will Play Practice Round Together On Monday

The 2012 U.S. Open begins play this Thursday at The Olympic Club, with players officially beginning practice rounds on Monday morning. The headline early group will see Tiger Woods playing with former Standford teammate Casey Martin, who may be as big a draw this week as Woods. Via Steve Corkran of the Mercury News:

The marquee group for the beginning of U.S. Open practice rounds Monday features Tiger Woods, former Stanford teammate Casey Martin, current Stanford sophomore Cameron Wilson and Oregon State junior Nick Sherwood.

The foursome tees off at Olympic Club at 7 a.m. in the first group of the day. Master's champion Bubba Watson is slated to tee off in the second group 15 minutes later.

Martin, who has not played competitively in five years, is currently the coach at Oregon. He earned a spot in the Open field by winning a sectional qualifier, defeating one of his own players in the process. This will be Martin's second appearance in a major. His first, coincidentally, was also at The Olympic Club, in 1998.
