Perhaps, other than Tiger Woods of course, the biggest story of the U.S. Open thus far has been the play of Beau Hossler, a 17-year-old amateur from Mission Viejo, Calif. After three rounds, Hossler is still in contention, shooting an even-par 70 on Saturday to stay 3-over par, finishing, as of now, tied for seventh in the field.
"I feel like today I've even put myself in position to win the championship if I play well," he told reporters afterward.
Hossler certainly looked focus on Saturday. He bogeyed on four holes, but followed up each one with a birdie, canceling them out. And with a good showing in the final round on Sunday, he could very well become the first amateur to win the tournament in decades.
