Virginia put together three runs in the second, sixth, and eighth innings to defeat Army on Saturday, 9-1. It was an opening round matchup at the Charlottesville Regional that had been suspended on Friday due to the weather conditions.
Brandon Downes doubled in the second inning and eventually scored the first run for the Cavaliers. Stephen Bruno's two-RBI single later in the inning gave Virginia a 3-0 lead.
After Army finally got on the board in the sixth inning, Branden Cogswell hit a three-RBI double to right-center field to give Virginia some insurance runs against Army.
The Cavaliers scored their runs in the eighth inning on an error and RBIs from Kenny Towns and Bruno.
