NHL Mock Draft 2012: Washington Capitals Projected To Select Finland's Teuvo Teravainen And OHL's Matt Finn In First Round

The Washington Capitals own the most picks in this year's NHL Draft, including both the No. 11 and No. 16 picks in the first round. In the TSN mock draft, published by Craig Button and Pierre McGuire, the Capitals are predicted to pick both a left winger and a defenseman. The winger is Finland's Teuvo Teravainen at the No. 11 pick and the defenseman is Matt Finn of the OHL's Guelph Storm at the No. 16 pick.

11. Washington Capitals

Player: Teuvo Teravainen
Position: Left Wing
Team: Jokerit (FIN)
Craig Button's Notes: "GM George McPhee loves to go for the home run, and the diminutive forward from Jokerit could be exactly that."

Teravainen spent the 2011-12 season playing for the Jokerit team in Finland's SM-Liiga. He had an increase in ice time that coincided with the teams run in the playoffs, reaching the semifinals. Teravainen finished the season with 11 goals with seven assists. He added two goals and four assists in the playoffs. At the World Junior Championships, Teravainen scored two goals and tallied six assists as the Finnish team made it to the Bronze Medal Game.

16. Washington Capitals

Player: Matt Finn
Position: Defence
Team: Guelph (OHL)
Pierre McGuire's Notes: "A safe and reliable player on the blueline. "

Finn has played the last two seasons for the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League. This past season, Finn scored 10 goals and tallied 37 assists. Though he was left off of the Canadian Junior National Team last year, that was the motivation for him to work hard on his conditioning, which scouts say has improved substantially.

The NHL Draft begins Friday night at 6 p.m. Television coverage will be provided by NBC Sports Network.
