After a hectic Friday night and round one of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, the Washington Capitals have made their first selection in Saturday's proceedings, selecting Chandler Stephenson with their third round pick, the 77th overall choice in this year's draft.
Via Mike Vogel of washingtoncaps.com:
#Caps take LW Chandler Stephenson from Regina of WHL. Strong, skilled winger with good hands.

Stephenson helped guide the Regina Pats to the playoffs last season for the first time in four years, notching 22 goals and 20 assists despite missing 14 games with an injury. C Corey Pronman of Hockey Prospectus offers this assessment of Stephenson:
Stephenson to WSH. A very creative and skilled forward who is a bit of a project and his physical game is a concern.
