MLS Standings 2012: D.C. United Still On Top After Weekend Loss

D.C. United lost by a final score of 3-2 to the New York Red Bulls on Sunday evening. It was their first loss in their last five games, and was not enough to knock them from their place atop the Eastern Conference Table.

Black-and-Red lead with 30 points, but their margin narrowed with Sunday's loss. Kansas City is close behind with 29 points. Sporting's loss to Philadelphia on Saturday helped preserve United's lead. New York has 27 points, third in the standings, and Chicago is next on the list with 24.

The San Jose Earthquakes lead the Western Conference with 33 points. San Jose beat Real Salt Lake in their last match, giving them an edge in the standings as Salt Lake now trails by one point. The Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders are in third and fourth place further down the standings, with 26 and 25 points.

The United are at home against Montreal on Saturday. The two teams played to a draw in their last match, in April. Montreal is in eighth place with 18 points.
